With Memorial Day around the corner and some schools out for the summer, it’s a good time to remind you that all children need to be supervised while in the water.

Last year, 80 children drowned in Texas. In 2019, that number was 87.

According to the Fort Worth Water Drowning Prevention Coalition, parents are encouraged to teach their kids about water safety including the use of floatation devices as well as swimming lessons. However, the coalition reminds parents that supervision and swimming with others are keys to keeping your child safe.

The coalition states on their website: in many cases, a drowning is a completely silent event, and two seconds is too long to turn your back on a child in water.

Since many of us will be enjoying the summer in a pool, lake or ocean – we want to remind everyone to keep an eye out and be safe!
