Unfortunately, there is simply no shortage of stories on those who target and scam our elderly family members, friends, and neighbors.
In Fort Worth, Ernest Thibodeaux was recently sentenced to three and a half years in jail after he pled guilty to a charge of theft of an elderly victim, $2,500-$30,000. Law enforcement believes there are at least six cases in Arlington and Fort Worth where Thibodeaux received payments and did substandard work – or no work at all.
Dallas police arrested Thibodeaux back in February when he was found asleep in his car. They then discovered he had warrants out for his arrest in Alabama and Mississippi.
The 51 year old, who sometimes went by the name of Kris Malachi, must also pay $77,000 to his victims.
No matter your age, if you are looking to hire a contractor, take your time and do your homework. Check your Better Business Bureau for any complaints. Request references. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Often, time and information are a scammer’s worst nightmare.
