Criminals are taking advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to steal your personal information and your money.

Phone Calls

You may receive phone calls asking you to donate to an organization that is helping coronavirus victims. Some calls may offer free coronavirus testing, or even cures. If you respond, you’ll be directed to someone who will ask for your financial information. Please hang up the phone. Better yet, do not answer unknown phone numbers.

Emails

Scam emails are following the same subject lines, and they’re especially dangerous to open. You may get an email offering coronavirus testing or cures, or a “safe” way to donate to a “worthy” organization. When you click on the link included, it will take you to a malicious website and it will collect your private and financial information.

Be Safe

There is no cure for the coronavirus.

There are reputable testing locations. Check your county government websites for information.  For those in an around Dallas County, you can go to their website for drive-through testing sites and criteria for getting tested.

There are many non-profits that could use your help. The safest way to donate is to go directly to the organization’s website. Do not go through a third party.

Local, state and federal officials/agencies are NOT going to call or email and request your social security number or your bank account information.

Stay home, stay healthy and be well!
