Early Sunday morning, a suspected drunk driver plowed into the side of an Irving police officer’s squad car.

The officer, Julie Durham, had been responding to a hit-and-run, and was sitting inside her squad car in the southbound lane of Loop 12 near Grauwyler Road. She was blocking traffic for another responding officer and an accident victim when Briana Noel James ran into the squad car.

James, 22, was charged with driving while intoxicated and booked into the Irving jail. Officer Durham was not seriously hurt but was taken to Parkland Hospital as a precaution.
