Brandon Tran, 17, was arrested one day after his Mazda SUV allegedly veered into three construction workers. The incident took place on Stacy Road, between Alma Road and Ridge Road in McKinney.
Sadly, one of the workers, Jose Rivera, died six days after being struck. The other two construction workers suffered minor cuts and bruises. Tran faces three felony counts of an accident involving personal injury or death. And with the death of Mr. Rivera, one of those felony counts will be upgraded to a second-degree felony.
Police said, Tran admitted to driving the car, and said he thought he hit a road sign, panicked then drove away.
We have all seen different campaigns urging drivers to slow down and pay attention in construction zones. Whether you’re driving on a freeway or in a neighborhood, when you see construction underway, we urge you to slow down, put your phone down, pay attention, and take care.
