In a final crash report provided by the DPS, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office shows that Bradley Farmer, the driver of the truck that triggered a deadly crash, had methamphetamine in his system.
The crash occurred on March 23rd about 100 miles northeast of Dallas – near the town of Talco. The driver of the 18-wheeler swerved across Highway 271 and into a Mt. Pleasant High School bus as well as a car.
Track coach Van Bowen was driving the boys track team in the school bus and was able to avoid a head-on collision. However, assistant track coach Angelica Beard was driving a car behind the bus and was hit by the 18-wheeler. Farmer and Beard were both killed.
More than a dozen students and three coaches were injured – and this clearly could have been far more tragic without the quick maneuvering of Coach Bowen.
