If you drive on North Texas roads, you know that some drivers treat the highways and streets like their own personal race track. The Star-Telegram recently poured over 3.8 million traffic citations from the Texas Department of Public Safety. What did they find when it comes to speeding?
In 2016, more than 1,200 Texas drivers were caught going 100 mph or faster! The unfortunate record for speeding went to a man on a motorcycle who was clocked at 176 mph on Interstate 45 in Galveston County.
In Dallas County, 12 drivers were caught going more than 109 mph. Tarrant County racked up more than a dozen. Eight were in Denton County, and seven were in Wise County. Sadly, according to the data from that year, 3,776 traffic fatalities were linked to speeding.
Obviously, speed limits are set based on what is safe for the public. Please slow down and stay alert.
