On Wednesday, a woman was sent to the hospital after debris fell onto a pedestrian walkway below a construction site. The collapsed scaffolding also left a construction worker dangling from the side of a building.

The incident occurred on 2nd Street in front of the Renaissance Worthington hotel around 12:30pm. The collapse of the scaffolding partially knocked down an exterior construction elevator and caused debris to fall as well. The woman was taken to a hospital. Two others were treated and released.

Sundance Square Management owns the building. Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is the construction company performing the work. OSHA has begun an investigation to determine what caused the collapse.

Who’s at fault when debris falls from a construction site and injures someone walking below the construction area? The owner of the building? The construction company? Who pays the medical bills of the people that have been injured in an accident such as this one?
