USA Today just published an article with some tips for donating safely to the organization of your choice. And make no mistake, your donations are sorely needed – and will be for some time. Here’s a few bullet points from the article:
Scams can come via email.Even if you trust the sender, do NOT give money via a link.If you want to make a donation, go directly to the organization’s website.Watch out for names that closely resemble reputable organizations.For example, you might see givetoredcross.org rather than redcross.org.Make sure the organization actually exists by checking Charity Navigator or GuideStar.
