Once again, a man’s life was put in jeopardy when he tried to sell a cellphone to an online buyer. The incident took place in southwest Arlington, near Boles Junior High, where the two parties met to make their transaction.
After a friend of the buyer reached into the car and grabbed the cell phone, another man pulled a gun and fired it. The seller was not only able to avoid getting shot, he was able to identify two of the suspects. One suspect turned himself into police. Another suspect was arrested. There was no information on a possible third suspect.
What is a Safe Exchange Zone
Unfortunately, these types of stories are becoming more common. Even worse, some people are being killed during these types of transactions. Police departments are reminding the public to use “safe exchange zones” when buying/selling a personal

item.
Most police departments in North Texas now have safe exchange zones outside their department headquarters. Some have designated parking spaces you can use, and other police departments allow a buyer and seller to meet inside their headquarters lobby to make an exchange.
Safe exchange zones areas are well lit and typically under 24-hour video surveillance. Every city is different, so be sure and call the non-emergency number of your local police department to inquire about their policies.
