With current weather forecasts calling for three inches of rain over the next several days, this study conducted by Allstate caught our eye.

Allstate ranked the 200 largest cities across the United States for overall safe driving and for driving in snow and rain. Dallas ranked 178th for safe driving and driving in inclement weather.

For those of you who commute, we can’t imagine this comes as a surprise. In our personal experience, when it rains many drivers seem to move at 90mph or 19mph – there isn’t much in between. And sleet or snow isn’t any easier to deal with. As an example, in February 2015, an inch of snow fell in DFW. According to KDFW-TV, there were more than 425 accidents.

Fort Worth drivers were a little bit better. That city ranked 139th overall in safe driving, and 138th for safely driving in snow or rain.

The safest city for driving in North Texas was McKinney (134th overall), and the lowest ranked city in DFW was Garland (181st). No city in North Texas cracked the top 100. However, Brownsville, Texas, earned the top honor as the safest driving city in the nation.
