Is there anything more nostalgic than a lemonade stand? And who hasn’t stopped for a cup of lemonade and delighted the kids by paying far more than the advertised price? With those memories in mind, we were shocked to find out that some kids are being fined for running lemonade stands without a permit.
So what’s the problem? Many cities and municipalities prohibit lemonade stands from operating on public sidewalks or roads without a permit. Of course, there are numerous police officers that give kids a pass – but that’s not always the case.
But thanks to Country Time Lemonade, they’re supporting all young entrepreneurs by offering to pay their fine or reimburse them for a permit. The Country Time Legal-Ade motto is, “When life gives you arcane laws, make lemonade,” and their team is prepared to spend $60,000 on this endeavor through August 31st.
We called the Consumer Health Division in the City of Dallas, and asked if a kid could operate a lemonade stand. The woman who answered the phone said she wasn’t sure but checked with a supervisor. She came back on the line and told us that we did not need a permit, but added we must use powdered lemonade mix.
So kids, The Harris Firm says go ahead and get those lemonade stands up and running! And we hope everyone has a wonderful summer.
